Eliana got to spend some time with my parents for two nights this month! It was a little hard for me to let her go out of town without us. She had a lot of fun and came back with several containers of bubbles! She just might end up with some curly hair after all!
For the first time since we moved away from family, we spent Easter weekend back in our hometown. It was great to see friends who moved away the summer we did, friends from our old church, and lots of family!!! In the picture above, Kallie and Eliana are "hiding" their faces while Troy hid Easter eggs. They loved it!!!
Eliana was purely delighted with the hunting. We had about 5 hunts that day, 2 the next, and several more at home. Eliana enjoys hiding the eggs and then helping you find them. You have to be quick to find them, otherwise she will help you find them before you've even searched for them.
Natalie slept okay while we traveled. She ate about every 3 hours instead of every 4. Which is actually AMAZING compared to how Eliana traveled at that age!!! Eliana is doing so much better in the car! I think it helps that she has someone to look at in the backseat and that she can hold conversations with us up front.
What is this??? Eliana wanted to hold her sister AND smile for a picture?!?!?! You bet I took a picture before she changed her mind!

She found her feet this month! She is still waking up in the night. She is having a feeding somewhere between 10 and midnight, and then again between 1 and 4am. We're praying that she'll drop one of theses feedings. Thankfully, the extra wakings beyond these feeds have stopped for now:) Kyle has been a SUPER help in the morning. If she gets up before he goes to work, she joins him for a little bit until she gets hungry. That means I can get between 15 and 45 minutes of extra sleep. Hooray for my fantastic husband!!!

It was only for less than half an hour, but I'll take it! There is just something about the ocean that soothes and excites me all
at the same time. I think it is in part because growing up we spent many family
vacations visiting grandparents and seeing the ocean. Awe.
We were near the ocean for Rachel's dad's funeral. So, you may notice
that Eliana wasn't with us. She had an amazing day with my family. We
figured her seeing some of her favorite people mourning would rock her
world a bit. Natalie thankfully slept through the whole service and brought joy and comfort to those around us.

Well, I had cooked a turkey and then made broth from the bones. I happened to notice that we had run out of freezer bags. I was a little worried that the regular bags would open, so I put all 8 or so small bags in one large bag to freeze. Can you tell what happened? At least one bag did open and then all of them were frozen together. They had been sitting on a bag of frozen veggies that had a bird chip clip keeping the bag closed. As you may see, it was frozen stuck. I hadn't planned on using all of the broth at once, but I ended up making some soup.

If you look carefully, you'll see that Eliana is wearing a baby carrier. It was so nice to have some company in the morning!!!
Can you believe it? They are both smiling at the same time! That is a miracle!!!

Eliana continues to love changing her clothes multiple times a day. Lately she likes to change into her Cinderella pajamas as soon as we get home from a walk or playing outside. I don't mind so much since I know it will be different within a couple of hours.

Sometimes I think God made dirt just to play in:) Sofia and Eliana love dirt, throwing balls, and kicking balls. I had so much fun with these two girls. I had them run, run, running!

All of that good running caused Eliana to fall asleep while we were praying before bedtime. At least she made it through Bible story time!
It was challenging to get a one arm photo of us when we were a family of three, and it is simply humorous to try now. I figure this one didn't turn out too bad.

This month she
swallowed a firecracker. That is my best explanation for the sound she
now makes when she is super tired or really fussy or just plain mad.
Thankfully, although we hear that noise a few times a day it isn't a-l-l
day or even for super long periods of time. She is awake for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours at a time. She alternates between 6 and 7 feedings a day. For the last few nights she has been fighting her last nap.

Natalie became the main focus of Eliana as she learned how to take photos. The upper right photo is a self portrait of Eliana:)

Natalie is still eating once in the middle of the night. She has a new habit of also waking about an hour before I'm willing to feed her (somewhere around 1am) and then an hour before I'm willing to start our day (somewhere around 5am). So she get the pacifier and thankfully goes back to sleep fairly quickly. The only thing is that I am getting pretty tired from all of the extra waking up. For many months she was eating around 3am and then at 7am. That was nice. I'm not sure what happened and why she started waking around 1am, but I remind myself that this is just a season. One day she will sleep through the night. Hopefully is will be a wee bit sooner than it took Eliana, but I'm still getting way more sleep than I did with Eliana. SO, I count my blessings!
We love making Natalie smile. Now that I know these easy smiles are also a short season, I am treasuring them and basking in the gleeful, toothless smiles she gives me oh so easily.
Natalie loves to stand while holding onto our hands, to sit up with help, and chew on anything she can get her hands on. If there is nothing to chew on, she finds a way to chew on most of her whole hand at one time.

We continued to try and get a picture to send out to some of our family and friends since the Christmas photo excursion was a flop. After 6 attempts, we sent the one on the right to those who sent us Christmas cards. I do love Eliana's smile on the left.
The Monday after Kyle returned Natalie was diagnosed with RSV and I was told to keep
her away from kids under age 2 until she was symptom free for 7-10
days. Most of support system is made up of other moms with wee ones. Thus the severe home bound season began. Thankfully, friends like
Rachel, Anita, and Michele still found a way for me to get out of the
house and visit. Talk about some sanity savors!!!

Two days after Natalie's doctor appointment, Eliana had a MAJOR allergic reaction to some thing we still haven't figured out. Kyle and Eliana had gone grocery shopping and she came back with spots. I can't describe the feeling that went through me when I saw her spotted face along with swollen and red hands and feet. God and I had a quick chat with me begging Him to intervene. Eliana sounded fine and was breathing fine, but in her words, "I have poka dots on my face!" She happened to have them everywhere and they were spreading. Kyle and Eliana had a visit to the ER, where she was given a steroid and some Benadryl. While Kyle and Eliana were gone, my dear friend April came over just to pray for me. There is something amazing about prayer from another Christ follower when you are falling apart inside. There is no other word to describe it but comfort. She had two flare ups two days later, but since then we've been good. We still don't know what caused the reaction.

Kyle had a special appointment that required travel for three days. I thought I just might entirely fall apart if he was gone again since I was still on lock down, so I asked Aunt Marcie if we could stay with her for a few days. She was thrilled to have us come, and I was so grateful for adult interaction. Pop Pop would be turning 82 at the beginning of February, but I wasn't planning on making another trip out of town. SO, I made a Oreo cheesecake a wee bit early for him. Since he is on his own, we didn't want the cheesecake to go bad. We thought it would be best to give him a super large slice and then share the rest. It was delicious! Uncle Michael and Sean said I can come over and make it for them any time!
Yes, she is asleep sitting up on the homemade bed guards. She really does need those guards up. She rolls all over the place at night. We try to remember to put a pillow between her and the wall since she has been know to repeatedly hit the wall in the middle of the night.
Eliana continues to care for her dolls and stuffed animals as she watches me care for Natalie. She diapered her caterpillar. She has also been known to nurse them.

This month Eliana has found the best thing to do during her quiet time (aka nap time minus the nap) is to redress herself. It had started with her wanting to pick out her own socks and has turned into multiple wardrobe changes throughout the day. She has a pair of capris that she LOVES, but since it is cold I often tell her that she needs pants that go to her ankles. So, she layers them with another pair of pants on top. Although it is kind of hard to tell, she is wearing two shirts in the photo above.

This month Eliana really seems to have grasped toilet training during the day. We now go days without an accident. HALLELUJAH!!!

This month Eliana has hit an all time high in whining and getting in trouble for disobedience. Normally I don't post about difficulties in parenting, but I want to be remember this since it will probably come around again when Natalie is this age. Eliana's continued disobedience makes me wonder why God puts up with us. We are all sinning against Him on a regular basis, yet He still loves us. I do understand why He has consequences for disobedience, but I'm stunned that He is slow to anger. God's grace amazes me as He has watched millions of 2 year olds disobey their parents. Then I think about sins that far more devastating than my 2 year old is capable of. Upon further reflection I thought about how God in His ultimate love sent Jesus to die for my sins. My sins which over my life have been far more than Eliana's choices to disobey. And not just my sins, but for everyone's sins. That is mind boggling to me. There is nothing like parenting to make me realize that I am a in need of a Redeemer. And there is nothing like parenting that draws me to prayer. Last week I wrote in my journal, "Dear God, I beg you for wisdom in parenting." I don't know if I've ever used the word beg before, but trust me, it was needed.
Natalie is still technically 3 months old for a few more days! I have the best intentions of capture special moments of her life each month. We'll see how long I can keep it up. Life with two wee ones is busy.

Natalie continues to have a content and sweet personality that is an immense blessing to us all. She does well in the car. She loves watching Eliana run around and play. Eliana is getting good at singing her songs when she cries. Natalie eats between 6 and 8 times a day. We were seeing a pretty consistent pattern for about 5 days, and then it all changed again. We don't have a complete pattern for her sleep and wake cycles, but I can often get an idea of how the day will look by comparing it to other days with the same in the middle of the night feeding time.

Natalie just recently discovered how to make her hands grasp what she is looking at. She continues to love chewing on her entire fist at one time. I don't know how she gets all five fingers in, but she does. Natalie continues to bring joy to many as she smiles and coos at strangers. We love her laugh!!! Our friend said she is a little Wookiee because of a noise she can make with saliva in the back of her throat. When making that noise she enjoys having a conversation. She makes the noise, I respond with humming raspberry because I can't make the same sound she can. Kyle responds by rolling his Rs. Today a friend said she had Spanish intonations. We don't speak that much Spanish around the house. It is used mainly when I am trying to tell Kyle something without Eliana understanding.

Sometimes I forget that Blogger automatically signs Kyle in. Thus it says he wrote this, but really it's me, Tasha. Here are a mixture of pictures that I found in our camera. I am not sure if they are even from the same month. Enjoy!

Natalie is getting pretty strong. She likes to sit in the bumbo. Tasha started putting her in the exersaucer too. Her tip toes touch the base when the adjustment is bottomed out. I remember my office throwing a baby shower for me before Eliana came. Ruli helped me put it together. As we tried to figure out where all the doodads went, Ruli exclaimed, This thing is going to give her baby ADHD. :)
Natalie's eyes are still blue. Tasha found a long silver hair on one side of her head that has a texture unlike all the rest of her hair. She also noticed that Natalie's dark hair has very light roots.
We had a blur of activity this Christmas season. We spent Saturday
visiting the girls' Grandpa Mark and Grandma Bonnie with Troy, Aimee,
and Kallie. Sadly, I forgot the camera. I enjoyed the company. Bonnie showed me how to to crochet hats!!! Eliana's is done, and she will wear it for all of two seconds. Natalie's is half way done. We got to see the girls' Great Grandpa Hal and Great
Grandma Sue on Sunday along with my friend Sara and her family.
Christmas Eve was spent at Aunt Marcie's with a slew of family.
Christmas day was spent at my parents house. It took me three days to
unpack and get my living room clean from where we dumped all of the
stuff when we unloaded the car.

The chocolate babka was amazing! It is worth the 3+ hours to make for special occasions.

I loved watching Kallie and Eliana "paint" Aunt Marcie. It is a good thing Aunt Marcie had two paint brushes since it was SOOOO important to both girls that they get to paint her hair and makeup.
After pouring milk on herself several times, Eliana decided to derobe amongst family. (o.0) Thankfully Aunt Marcie came to the rescue! I loved watching Aunt Marcie make Eliana laugh. One of the funniest moments of our trip was hearing that Sean told Eliana that the Dora button on the remote was broken, so they had to find something else to watch.
Both girls did fairly well being totally off the normal routine. It took about three days, but I feel like we are finally settling back down from all of the business.

This month she eats between 7 and 8 times a day. She is normally up only once in the night. The longest stretch between feedings has been nine hours. One of those times she didn't wake up at all. The other time she woke up a couple times, but she fell back asleep immediately once I gave her a pacifier. Most nights it is a six hour stretch between feedings.

We love her and can't believe that she is over two months already. This month she has learned that chewing on her hands is fun. Her neck is getting much stronger. She has been trying to pull herself up from a propped up position to a sitting position. Natalie enjoys a few minutes of tummy time which I find amazing since Eliana hated being on her tummy. We love her laugh that she has been sharing with us more and more.

So, I will show you the three attempts at taking a Christmas photo. Maybe you'll understand why a Christmas card didn't get sent this year.

This photo to the upper right was considered for a card, but I was hoping to get one of Natalie smiling since it might be the first photo introduction for some card openers.

Oh yes, and just imagine that I am only sharing a small handful of dozens and dozens of attempts...

This, awe yes, this was the smile I was looking for from Eliana. It was captured only once. It is too bad that Natalie wasn't looking a little better.

And this, yes this was what I was looking for from Natalie. I'm sure someone out there could photo shop the two together, but I am not that person.
Oh yes, and the nose picking to boot. Gotta love that! So, here is my blog post rather than a Christmas card or letter. Merry Christmas! I hope you got a chuckle from my little ones.
When I told people I was having a home birth I often saw looks of astonishment, fear, and curiosity. I was told that I was brave and crazy.

My mom had a midwife with my brother, so the thought of having one wasn't a totally foreign idea. When I was in college, I became friends with a midwife. We chatted here and there about some of her experiences. I was open to the idea of some day having a midwife. I brought it up when we were dating, and Kyle was not open to the idea at all. In fact, it scared him.

With Eliana's birth we did just as my OBGYN told us. We got classes through her office. We took all of the tests recommended. From a hospital's point of view, her birth was pleasant.

I had wanted to have a natural birth with Eliana. After 12 hours of labor, and about 7 of those being at the hospital, I wasn't progressing. I felt like I was letting Kyle, myself, and Eliana down, but I had an epidural. They checked me right after, and I had gone from a 4/5 to a 10 in about an hour. After pushing for a little over an hour, Eliana was born. We were elated that our first born had arrived. Kyle said he felt like he could climb a mountain and wanted to shout for joy up on top of that mountain.

Fast forward a year and a half. A friend of mine is a doula, a labor coach. She invited us to a screening of More Business of Being Born. I figured that before I saw the more part we'd watch The Business of Being Born. I checked it out from our local library so that Kyle and I could have a "movie night". The film opened up a slew of questions for Kyle and I to discuss.

So here are a few of the top reasons we chose to have a home birth:
*Everyone at the birth would be on the same page. I built a strong relationship with my midwife. Our visits weren't just the last few minutes of a check up.
*My goal was to have a natural birth, and epidurals aren't part of home births. I wouldn't have to hope that the nurse would support my decision to not have an epidural.
*I would be home where I was comfortable and where everyone on my team was comfortable. My midwife came to my home for my visits (a HUGE blessing), so she knew where things were. I knew that I'd be able to move around without dragging an iv with me, worrying about the band on the heart monitor moving, or having a nursing staff change (my 1st and 3rd nurses with Eliana were fabulous, but the 2nd one...). The baby's heart was monitored, but not with the painful to me (maybe they don't drive everyone crazy, but they made me crazy) bands that constantly moved during contractions.
*Things wouldn't slow down because I had to get in a car, go to a hospital, go to triage, and then a room. It is very common for labor to slow or completely stop during the transition from home to the hospital.
*I labored for a little less than four hours. I know that is not the case for many home births. I had felt during Eliana's labor that I progressed so much more at home and was so discouraged at how things slowed down at the hospital.
*This time around a friend lent me The Bradley Method. Although I didn't use much of what I read, I did focus a lot on relaxing as much as possible. I read parts of the book to Kyle, so he was able to gently encourage me to relax. My midwife friend had told me a long time ago that the baby can move as needed much easier if the mom can relax. It is difficult to relax once labor is really intense, but I did my best and I truly think it made a difference.

I am so grateful for our home birth of Natalie. I believe things progressed as quickly and smoothly as they did because I was home with a supportive team. I know that a home birth isn't for everyone, but it was the best choice for us.
Eliana and I made a felt Christmas tree. We had a lot of fun decorating the felt ornaments with puff paint. She would get so excited when some would finally come out of the squeeze tube. "I got it! I got it!" she would say in great jubilation!
Rachel and Natalie got to share a few cuddles on Saturday while Kyle took Eliana grocery shopping. Most of the time when Rachel visits, Eliana makes sure she gets a lot of time with "her" Rachel. Rachel and Ruli continue to be a HUGE blessing in our lives. It is so nice that they live close by and love our girls.
We have been blessed to have GramE and PopE come to stay with us for a few days. Sherry and I spent some time yesterday with my friend Nav learning how to make some Indian food. Perry and Sherry love Indian food, and Nav really enjoys showing us how to make some of her amazing food.

Natalie will be 8 weeks old tomorrow. I have no idea where the time went. She is a delightful baby who sleeps and eats well. She is waking up normally just once a night. She loves to "talk" and smile at us. She enjoys bath time and hasn't been crying too much in the car lately. Natalie is still losing her hair, but it looks like some dark hair is starting to grow back on top. Her eye brows have a red tint to them though, so we'll just wait and see. Her eyes are still blue.

Eliana will be exactly 2 and a half on Christmas. She has recently learned to jump up and down. It is hilarious to watch her jump and jump. If she naps, she is up until 10. If she doesn't nap, she goes to sleep fairly easily around 8. If she doesn't nap, sometime things fall apart in the afternoon. We are still working on her staying in her big girl bed. Some days she does great at it. Other days she figures out legitimate reasons to come out. "I have to go potty. I need a tissue. I have a booger on my finger." I am often feeding Natalie during her rest time, so I am blessed if I fit my Bible study time in too. All of the other things I used to do during her naps either get done later or simply take longer to get done. Natalie has been losing some of her hair. Eliana had so little to start with that I didn't really notice when she lost hers. Natalie's eyebrows are fairly light, so I'm curious what color her hair will be. Eliana's were pretty light at this time too.
Natalie turned 5 weeks old yesterday! Kyle and I can't believe that she is already over a month old. She is regularly eating around 9 at night, some time between 2 and 3, and than again in the morning between 6 and 8. It is glorious! I am SOOOO thankful to God that she sleeps well. It is such an answer to prayer.
We continue to adjust to being a family of four. Eliana initially regressed in toilet training, but that has really improved over the last two weeks. Eliana is so sweet to Natalie. She loves to bring her a little bear and put it next to her when she is sleeping. We're still trying to figure out how to get out the door in a timely manner. Sometimes it takes us 5 minutes, but other times it takes us 15. Eliana stopped taking naps for the most part about a week before Natalie came. But she has napped 3 times in the last 4 days, so there is hope! Even if she doesn't nap, she has a rest time in her room.

Eliana, Natalie, and I are enjoying Bible Study Fellowship. For the first few weeks, Eliana's only remark was that they played with blocks. She loves playing on the playground. They sing a lot in BSF, so we too are singing "Old MacDonald had a Farm" and "The Itsy Bitsy Spider". I loved when she spontaneously started singing "Jesus Loves Me". Last week Eliana had a cold so we couldn't go to BSF. She must really be enjoying her time, because she talked about it for a good part of last Tuesday. Natalie has done well with me. I got to be in all of the discussion group and lecture time today!

Eliana is such a sponge. I'm so glad that we don't cuss, because if we did she'd be picking it up. She is very tender hearted. She doesn't want to see anyone hurt. Yesterday we saw a Winnie the Pooh clip where Pooh is being chased by bees. Eliana started crying for poor Pooh. We can't watch any of my favorite Pixar movies yet, because she can't handle characters yelling at each other or someone getting hurt. It makes be think of the line, "Be careful little eyes what you see for the Father up above is looking down in love, so be careful little eyes what you see."

We are often inside since Natalie sleeps so much of the day. We try to be creative since we are home bound. Rachel came over last weekend and painted Eliana's nails. Eliana loved it! Then Rachel was brave enough to let Eliana paint her nails!!! Now that is some creativity.
When Kyle comes home, I often try and get Eliana out of the house for a little bit of just her and me time. Do you see those curls coming in? My mom tells me that my hair was curlier to start, so we'll just wait and see how curly Eliana's gets.
We found some sunflowers on our walk. I don't mind at all how nice the weather continues to be. We have September weather in November. Then again, this September was like July weather. So maybe the weather is just making up for the heat we had earlier.Tashahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08182451749276067348noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3979916435890935210.post-4825846525358107272012-11-06T14:59:00.001-08:002012-11-06T14:59:33.917-08:00Sisters

Eliana has really enjoyed having baby sister come out to play! They can sleep through each other crying. That amazes me since I can't sleep if either of them is crying, and Kyle can sleep through both of them crying.
Natalie likes to turn to see her big sister. Eliana enjoys holding Natalie for brief moments. She loves to bring her things like toys or blankets. One day, she brought Natalie her favorite pajamas and laid them next to her. I pray that they will have a great relationship as they continue to grow.

Did you notice the smile on both of their faces? Natalie was three weeks old the day this photo was taken.
Trying to get great photos of both of the girls can be quite a challenge. I loved Eliana's face in this photo enough to go ahead and post it even though it isn't Natalie's best. I had this mini photo shoot yesterday. Initially, I was just taking photos of Natalie on a cream colored blanket. Eliana ran and got her blanket and joined Natalie up on our bed so that she could take some photos too!Tashahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08182451749276067348noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3979916435890935210.post-63395534243135165282012-11-06T14:43:00.000-08:002012-11-06T20:42:12.707-08:00Natalie is 4 Weeks Old!!

This photo is from Natalie at 2 weeks old. She has more hair than Eliana did at over a year old. I'm curious to see what will happen when it falls out. Maybe she'll go bald for a while, or maybe it will turn out to be a light color of hair.

Natalie is sleeping well. Last night she went for six hours from the beginning of one feeding to the beginning of the next. That was a first! She has gone a few times for a five hour stretch. Most of the time she goes three to four hours at night. I'm not nearly as sleep deprived this time around. I am SOOOOOO thankful that the Lord has answered my prayers about Natalie being a better sleeper than Eliana was. Another answered prayer is that Natalie doesn't spit up nearly as often. In the last few days she has been gaining strength in her neck so that she can hold it up and look around for a few moments at a time. Her legs are getting stronger too as she tries to stand on me when I burp her. I can't believe four weeks has already gone by. We are adjusting well. I hope to keep the blog some what up to date, but we'll just see how things go. I hear that second babies don't get nearly the amount of photos taken. Natalie has hundreds of photos, but we'll just see how many actually get to the blog.
Well, it sounds like Eliana (who is just having rest time now since she started opting out of naps the week before Natalie came) went in to quiet Natalie who has started to fuss. I'm off to go check on my sweet girls.
