In my theology class we are learning about the Mennonite Brethren as they exist in the global community. We’ve had speakers come in and share about these different communities (Japan, United States, and India). When Enns Sensei came to discuss Japan he taught us a lot about the culture and heritage that has shaped the MB church there. He explained the significance of the cherry tree blossoms to the Japanese. The blossoms are celebrated as the start of a new season. They are also observed to only hold to the trees for a short time. Therefore, they serve as a reminder of how precious and short this life on earth is. I don’t think these are cherry trees but have caused me to be constantly reminded of this insight. It has caused me to reflect much on God’s creation, his power, and his attention to detail.
Glad you took the picture of the blooming tree. I have been driving up and down I-5 and the almond orchards look like they’ve been snowed on. Of course, the pistachio orchards look like they’ve been doused with pink snow, so that’s a little weird. Beautiful – thanks!
