Pistis Christou is Greek. It is used 7 times in the Pauline Corpus. Galatians 2:16 is one of them. It can be translated "faith in Christ" or "faith of Christ". Which is accurate? I have written in a research paper the follwing: What are the implications of each phrase to our understanding of soteriology? “Faith in Christ” merits a human response. A person must choose to believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior. “Faith of Christ” merits nothing on behalf of humanity. A person is able to gain favor with God because of Christ’s faithfulness to God. I believe that this issue boils down to the struggle to reconcile human responsibility with human depravity. It also seems to be a struggle between the notions of free will and predestination. What is the origin of faith? Is faith derived from within each person in accordance to their own willpower or is it given by God to those whom He predestined?
