I do believe the bird is a sandpiper. I think they are birds that like beach areas, so I always find it funny when they are kind of in the middle of "nowhere"! :)
Oh, that kind of makes sense. What you can't see in the picture is that the birds (there was a family of 5) were on the edge of mini lake created to keep our water table at the right levels.
